(23 Sep 1920, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Pate Williams, residing about three miles east of this city, died at her home on Wednesday last after an illness of about two weeks. Mrs. Williams was quite well known in this city, and both here and among her neighbors she was highly respected. She leaves a husband and three young children to mourn her loss. Interment was at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery on Thursday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. J. W. Williams of this city. (30 Sep 1920, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Williams was the daughter of W. J. and Nancy L. Sheets. She was born in Lee County, Virginia. She professed religion at the tender age of thirteen, and united with the Methodist church at Steep Rock, Virginia, and had ever since lived a faithful christian life. She was united in marriage to Pate Williams at Celina, Texas, February 14, 1907. To this union were born five children, the youngest only three weeks old; all of whom survive her. She leaves also a loving husband, father and mother, three sisters, two brothers, and many true friends to grieve and miss her. She had suffered much. Two years ago the "flu" laid her low. Since then she had been an invalid, yet how patiently she bore her sufferings. During her last illness she was removed to the home of her sister, Mrs. Jim Williams, where all that love could suggest was done to comfort her, and all that medical skill could offer was tried in vain to save her. We buried her in the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. Rev. Williams conducted impressive services. The beautiful white casket was covered with flowers. Her children attended the Doxey school, which was dismissed by the teachers, to attend the funeral. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
