Williams Dead Rev. J. W. Williams, a pioneer minister of this section of the state died at his home in this city, Saturday, July 18th. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Monday, July 20th. Interment was made in the Doxey-Sayre cemetery. (23 Jul 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF REV. WILLIAMS Rev. Joseph W. Williams, of Sayre, died at a local hospital, Saturday, from a stroke of apoplexy, which he suffered several days ago. He was seventy years of age, and had lived in this community for many years. Rev. Williams was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal South church, and had held pastorates at Hammon and Canute. He recently retired from the ministry and moved with his family to Sayre, where he was taken ill.
