All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ YOUNG, JOHN ARCHIE (25 Feb 1926, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): John Young a pioneer resident of the Berlin section died on Saturday last, at the age of 74 years. Funeral services were held at Berlin (Roger Mills County) on Monday afternoon. Mr. Young was a gentleman widely known and very highly respected. (4 Mar 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): John Archie Young was born in Plaskey, Tennessee, March 27, 1850; departed this life at his home at Berlin, Oklahoma, at 11 a.m., February 20th, 1926, aged 75 years, 10 months and 24 days. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary McCannless (sic), October 2nd, 1870. To this union were born seven children, three of whom preceded him in death, the first child dying in infancy. Eddie died on December 25, 1889 and Jimmie on May 24th, 1923. His wife and four children are left to mourn their loss, the children being, Charley A. Young, of Custer City, Oklahoma; Rollie A. Young of Lamesa, Texas; Miss Myrtle Young, Berlin, Oklahoma; and Roy B. Young of Oklahoma City. There are also sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, a sister, Mrs. Amanda Clark of Cornesvill, Tenn., a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Young united with Methodist church at Brinkman, Oklahoma, in 1894 and was ever a faithful and active christian, and after moving to Berlin, Oklahoma, in 1899, he kept up his christian work, and was steward and treasurer of the church for a number of years, also was an active member of the Sunday school. One of the special traits of Mr. Young, and one spoke of by so many was that he always had a good word for everyone.
