(27 Jan 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Charles S. Younger, a well known farmer residing six miles north and one east of this city, died last Friday after an illness of several months at the age of a little less than 42 years. Funeral services were held from the family home on Saturday afternoon with Rev. T. N. Weeks, of the Methodist church, of this city, officiating, and were largely attended. Interment was in the Doxey-Sayre Cemetery. (27 Jan 1927, Sayre Journal, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): The many friends of Mrs. J. Younger and family were grieved to learn of the passing away of her son, Charlie, early last Friday morning. Charlie had been seriously ill for several weeks and everything that medical science and loving relatives and friends could do was of no avail. His sister, Mrs. Vada Taper of Santa Rita, New Mexico and Mrs. Julia Wood of Phoenix, Arizona, came several days ago, to help care for him. (10 Feb 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Charles Y. (sic) Younger, Charlie, as he was called by those who loved him, was born in Texas, May 5, 1885, and came to this western county with his parents, brothers and sisters, when a lad. He attended school and grew to manhood in this locality. While he was quiet and unassuming in his ways, as a boy and as a man, he has ever been one who could be trusted. Honest and upright in his dealings with his fellowmen, a good neighbor, a true friend, a loving brother and son. A son upon whom an aged mother could lean for company, comfort and support during her declining years. Charlie had been in failing health for the past year and was seriously ill two months previous but the Father in heaven had marked him for his own and on January 21, 1927, at the break of dawn, he quietly passed to his long rest, leaving to mourn his loss, his mother, Mrs. J. W. Younger; two sisters, Mrs. W. R. Wood, of Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. R. T. Taper of Santa Ritz, New Mexico and one brother, James C. Younger, and other relatives and friends. His father and older brother have passed on before. The funeral was held at the family home Saturday afternoon, January 23, at 2:30. Rev. T. N. Weeks, pastor of the Methodist church of Sayre, conducting the service. The family appreciated his loving words of comfort and a large procession followed the remains of their dear son, brother and friend to the Doxey-Sayre cemetery where he was laid to rest in the family lot. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
