She passed away December 12, 2009 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 2 days. Velma grew up in the New Liberty Community and was married to David Lester Shirley at Tucumcari, New Mexico on November 13, 1950. They lived in Sayre before moving to Arizona and then in 1957 they moved to Borger, Texas. In 1975 they moved to Woodward, Oklahoma and then to the Berlin Community in 1976 to make their home. Velma was a member of the Western Swing Square Dance Club. She was an active member of the Sayre First Baptist Church. Survivors include 1 daughter, Sheila Watowa and husband, Travis of Anaheim, CA; 2 sons, Steve Shirley and wife Judy of Sayre, Oklahoma and Tim Shirley of Sayre, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Russell Millsap, Melissa Hough and Dustin Denney; 3 great grandchildren, Hailey Hough, Justin and McKayla Denney and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 1 brother, Glen Moseley. Services will be held Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sayre First Baptist Churcch officiated by Gary Baird. Burial will follow at the Berlin Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
