Burial followed at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. Mary Lucy Norris Stansberry was born March 27, 1919 in Lacey, Oklahoma to Walter and Fern (Walker) Norris and died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the age of 91. She was married to George Aubrey Stansberry on June 4, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma. They lived most of their lives in Elk City with the exception of a few years spent in Washington, D.C., California and Lousiana. They were married for 58 years. George passed away in October of 1994. Lucy served most of her 33 years of work at the Old Town Museum in Elk City as curator. She began working at the museum on June 1, 1976 and retired on November 30, 2009. On December 18, 2009, Elk City Mayor Teresa Mullican proclaimed "Lucy Stansberry Day" for her many yearsa of service to the museum and to the community. She was inducted into the Western Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1995. During her years at the museum, she assisted numerous presidents of Western Oklahoma Historical Society, served on the Board of Directors, served as Secretary and served on the Elk City Museum Commission. She has been a paying member of the Western Oklahoma Historical Society since 1972. She as acting secretary for the Museum Commission and Oklahoma Historical Society for five years. She was on the committee for the book Prairie Fire and was treasurer for the book Prairie Wedding. As curator she attended many schools and workshops and collected numerous historical items across the state for the museum. Lucy is involved with the 2nd and Adams Street Church of Christ, where she is a long time member. She taught 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class, has helped with Vacation Bible School and pre-school classes. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Fern Carpenter, Elk City, one son, Mark A. Stansberry and his wifew Nancy of Edmond, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Stansberry; her parents, Walter and Fern Norris and four brothers, Walker, John, Bob and Harry Norris.
