  Mr. James D. Throckmorton,
best known to the citizens of
Carter and vicinity as "Grandpa
Throckmorton", died at his home
here in Carter on Tuesday night
of last week, following a serious
illness dating back to the fall
months, having been confined to
his home since the first of last
November.
  Mr. Throckmorton has been a
resident of this country for many
years and has many friends who
sympathize with his family in
their bereavement.
  His life companion and the fol-
lowing of his children wre at 
his bedside during his last hours
W.E. Throckmorton of Garner,
Texas, Mrs. Grace Hodges of
Wilson, Texas, L. G. Throckmor
ton and family of Amarillo and
M. E. Throckmorton and family 
of Carter.  A son, Walter Throck-
morton of Apacha did not arrive
until Sunday night.
  Interment was made at Carter
cemetery Saturday evening, the 
Masonic fratenity having charge
of the burial.
