Jan 26, 1911 Mayfield Items Melissa A. Cantrell Titsworth The death angel has again visited our community and taken away one of our noble Christian women, Malissa A. Cantrell was born in central Tennessee, Jan 16, 1834 died Jan 18, 1911. She was married in 1846 to Sanders Titsworth. To this union was born six children, five sons and one daughter. Four sons survive her death. Three are living in Oklahoma and one in Texas, only two present at her death. Her husband died in March 1863 of measles while in the Confederate Army in Little Rock, Ark., about 150 miles from home, leaving her to struggle with life's battles to support herself and children. She was a women of early days, one of the grandmother's who spun and wove her own cloth for their clothing. She lived most of her life in Arkansas, came to Oklahoma a few years ago to spend the rest of her days with her children. She became a member of the Primitive Baptist church at the age of 18 and has lived a devoted Christian the rest of her life. A mother's love is treasured above all things and it is sad to think that mother's gone, but there is a sweet assurance when we know that all is well with God. She is gone, but not forgotten, while she has pass beyond this world of care and trouble, yet her good works and motherly love still remain. She leaves four sons and a number of grandchildren and friends to mourn her loss. Remains were laid to rest at the Mayfield cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Coffey and Montgomery. The writer extends condolences to the bereaved ones.---Observer. Submitted by: Marian Titsworth Dingman memisdtr@adelphia.net
