Burk received a telegram Sunday morning from Wichita Kans. announcing to him the sad news of the death of his older brother. Mr. Burk left on the evening train for Wichita. (28 Apr 1911, Friday, Texola Herald, Texola, Beckham Co, OK): Thomas J. Burk, who for the past seven years has been traffic manager for the Johnston & Larimer Dry Goods company, died very suddenly Sunday morning at his home, 606 South Lawrence avenue, of an attack of acute indigestion and heart trouble. Mr. Burk was born in Ohio November 25th, 1849, and came to Kansas in 1888, residing first at Wellington, Kans., until 1896, when he came to Wichita, where he has since lived. He was for eight years credit man for the Hockaday Hardware company until they went out of business in 1904. He then took the position of traffic manager for the Johnston & Larimer Dry Goods company, which position he has since filled. The funeral will be held at the residence, 606 South Lawrence avenue, at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The officers and employes (sic) of the Johnston & Larimer Dry Goods company will attend the services in a body. Mr. Burk is survived by a wife, two daughters and three sons. His aged father and mother are both still living at New Cordan, Ind., aged 82 and 84 respectively. (News was received last Sunday stating the death of his father.) He had quiet a wide acquaintance in the city among railroad officials and business houses and was universally respected as a man of high character and ability.
