(12 Nov 1925, Thursday, Texola Tribune, Texola, Beckham Co, OK): In the death of D. A. Muse, age about fifty years, at Kelton, Texas, on last Sunday, rumor has it that it was a case of suicide, but it has not been determined just what the poison was self administered. There is another report that it was probably a case of heart trouble as the deceased was just recovering from a weeks spell of sickness which bordered close to pneumonia. He had been confined to his bed for several days prior to Sunday when he arose and walked about the house some before he was discovered in the clutches of death by members of the family. Doctors Joss and Nicholson of Wheeler, Texas, were called and it is reported here that they have not determined as yet just the exact cause of the death of the Kelton man. Mr. Muse, with a family of seven or eight children, moved to Kelton from Wellington, Texas, about a year ago. Shortly before leaving Wellington the mother and wife died. Some months after the death of the wife a report was started to the effect that her husband had administered poison and so strong were these rumors that charges were filed in the courts at Wellington against the husband and from letters that he had written and which were found the matter was resting heavily upon his mind. In all the letters, however, Muse denied strongly that he had administered poison to his wife. The case was to be tried next week, it is said. The deceased was of high standing at Wellington and in the Kelton community, where he has lived the past year. It is said that no financial trouble were bothering him as he had money and unlimited credit back at Wellington where he formerly lived. Burial was made at the Kelton cemetery Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Tribune extends sympathy to bereaved children, relatives in the loss of their father. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
