Some time last night or early this morning Roy Allen took his own life by swallowing two ounces of chloroform. His lifeless body was found in Mr. Mutcheller's barn, next door to where Mrs. Allen and her son lived. The news of his death was a shock, not only to his mother, but to the entire community. On Wednesday night nothing unusual was noted in his actions. He went to prayer meeting after his mother and she noticed nothing unusual in his actions. She went to bed about ten o'clock and supposed Roy did the same. This morning she got up as usual, got breakfast and went to call her son, when she found a note sticking in the door. The first few lines told her that he was going to take his own life and without finishing it, she ran to the neighbors to summon help. On further investigation, the note stated that they would find him in Mr. Mutchler's (sic) barn and when they arrived there, life was already extinct. The note to his mother was substantially as follows: Dear Mother: What I do tonight I hope you can forgive me for it. It looks like the last two years I have not been able to accomplish anything and every thing goes against me. What I do I believe it will be for the best, for I feel that I am losing my mind and it worries me a great deal. My life insurance expires the tenth of this month and what I have will do more for you than I can. See Roscoe Yaden about it. With best love, Roy. The note further stated that he would be found in Mutchler's barn, with instructions to phone to the boys. Beckham County News.
