(25 Oct 1923, Thursday, Elk City News-Democrat, Elk City, Beckham County, OK): YOUNG MAN DIED FROM INJURIES. S. E. Beckwith, eighteen years old was working on the M.K. & T. near Leedey last Thursday and had placed a jack under the track when he noticed a train coming. He tried to take the jack out when it stuck and he had to leave it there. As the train ran over the track it released the jack and it flew back and hit him in the abdomen rupturing his stomach, serously (sic) injuring him. He was brought to Elk City immediately hoping an operation would save his life, but he died a few hours after reaching here. His body was prepared for burial by Grubitz & Son and taken to Leedey for burial. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Beckwith of Leedey.
