(31 Jan 1924, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): CHILD FATALLY BURNED. A seven months old baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Blackwood, 2 miles southeast of Dawson, received burns last Saturday morning, from the effects of which she died before midnight. The baby was crawling about the floor as the mother was preparing dinner, when an older child pulled a coffee pot off the stove and the baby was scalded by its hot contents. Dr. Ames, the attending physician said the child would have recovered if it could have survived until the burns began to heal, but the schock (sic) was too great for its constitution. Burial took place at the Friendship cemetery on Sunday. The above was sent to us by Mrs. M. E. Tottingham of Mountain Grove, Mo. Mrs. Blackwood was formerly Miss Agnes McCormick of Elk City.
