A. and Hannah Bonner, 5 miles north of Salto, lost their little seven months old baby under very distressing circumstances last Friday. They went to the field to chop cotton, taking their two little children along. The baby was asleep in the buggy and the other child, about 5 years old was left to care for baby, but becoming sleepy climbed into the buggy and fell asleep on the babe smothering it to death. This is sad and distressing to the young parents and as Mr. Bonner remarked to us ought to be a warning to keep mothers and babies out of the cotton field. (7 Jul 1904, Erick Newspaper, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. Bonner, who lives 12 miles south of Erick, lost a little child last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Bonner took their two little ones to the cotton field. The mother put the little one to sleep in the buggy, and the other one, a child probably of three years, got tired and crawled up into the buggy and laid down upon the baby and smothered it to death. The father and mother chopped a round and returned to the buggy and were horrified at the slight of the lifeless little form. We know not why our little ones are taken from us, but God knows best. Mr. and Mrs. Bonner have the sympathy of all their friends and neighbors.
