(16 Feb 1911, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Last Saturday morning the section crew on the Hammon extension of the Wichita Falls and North Western, were enroute to their work from this city and when about four miles north of the city, they met a south bound freight in a heavy fog and it was so near they barely had time to leave the hand car when the train colided (sic) with it and the hand car was thrown from the tract (sic) by the engine and killed A. M. Brady at once and seriously injured Will Wright, both of this city. The section crew were those of section foreman Martin, whose section is from Carpenter, for lack of section house at Carpenter, they still lived at Elk City. There were eight men and the foreman on the car, but none except Wright and Brady were hurt. Mr. Brady's remains were entered (sic) at the Elk City cemetery and he leaves a wife and two children to mourn his untimely end. Mr. Wright was taken to Wichita Falls to the railroad hospital for care and treatment. We understand he also has a wife and three children. The affair was a sad one and leaves a home very unexpectedly without fatherly and a husband's protection, and the other in dreadful suspense awaiting the outcome of the injuries sustained. It was, however, an unavoidable accident and no blame can especially be laid to any one except innocent thoughtlessness of the impending danger. The real cause for the accident was the dense fog that obscured the view of the oncoming train. (17 Feb 1911, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Two Men Killed. Two section hands were killed four miles North of Elk City last Saturday being run down by a train. They were on a hand car and tried to get the car off the track before the train struck it, but remained too long with it. The car was knocked off and struck both of the men. Mr. Grady, (sic) one of the men, had his back and neck broken, dying instantly, his funeral services being held at Elk City Sunday afternoon. Bill Wright, the other, who has a wife and three children in Elk City, got his side and hip badly bruised. He was carried to Wichita Falls to the hospital where he will probably die. (23 Feb 1911, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Man Killed Near Elk. A. M. Brady, a section hand working on the W. F. & N. W. railroad was instantly killed and William Wright, another laborer, was perhaps fatally injured last Saturday, Feb. 11, while trying to remove a hand car off the track, four miles north of Elk City. Both parties live in Elk City.
