BRIDGES, B. O.
(6 Jul 1922, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK):
For the second time in the past two months the new well which is being put
down in south Erick has caved in this time killing Wesley Snoe, a young
man about 18 years old, who lives on route 1, northeast of Erick.
Asa Willis, the contractor, in an endeavor to save one of the men almost
lost his life.  He jumped into the well and put a rope around Bridges, who
was too weak to help himself.  Asa then climbed the rope while the men
above was pulling them up and both were clear of the main hole, when
Bridges through (sic) up his arms and said "good bye boys," the rope
slipping over his arms and he fell back into the well.  Mr. Willis let go
the rope and was back into the well and had the man in his arms when the
second cave-in occured (sic) knocking the man from his grasp and rendering
Asa almost helpless.  A hose was thrown out to him and he was pulled out. 
Willis was bruised up considerable about the head and shoulders.
Wesley Snoe, B. O. Bridges and Park Shroyer were all working in the well
when Vic Caudill, who was watching the men work shouted a warning to them.
B. O. Bridges, the other man killed is a stranger here, his home being at
Ft. Worth, Texas.
B. O. Bridges ran for the north and the force of the falling wall knocked
him over into the main hole and somehow his leg was smatched (sic) off.
The body of Mr. Bridges was recovered late Tuesday evening; and was taken
to the undertaking parlors of Bonebrake-Gillum, where it was embalmed and
shipped to his home at Ft. Worth, Texas.
The bereaved relatives and friends of the deceased have the sympathy of
the entire community in their hours of sorrow.

We wish to thank the people of Erick and vicinity for their assistance and
kindness shown us in the untimely death of our darling son, B. O. Bridges,
who was killed in the well at Erick, Oklahoma.
