(20 Dec 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED FROM BURNS. Rev. Pitzer and wife were called to their old home near Cordell, Monday, to the funeral of Laura Brubaker, twelve year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brubaker, who by the way are no relation to Rev. Brubaker, formerly of Elk City. Saturday morning about seven o'clock while working around range, the little girl reached for something in the warming oven, knocking over a small can of kerosene from the oven to the stove. The oil ignited and her dress caught fire, and before the flames were extinguished she was burned so badly that death came soon after noon. Rev. Pitzer says she was of a sweet, christian character, loved by everyone, and that death had no terrors for her. She was conscious to the last and knew there was no hope for her. Rev. Mohler had charge of the funeral, assisted by Rev. Pitzer.
