Mrs. W. R. Carter was instantly killed, several persons were more or less injured and property loss running into thousands of dollars was the roll of the storm which swept through Greer County, Sunday night. The Carter home four miles southeast of Mangum was blown into splinters. Mrs. Carter was killed, Mr. Carter was badly injured, and their four year old girl was cut and bruised. The Carter family had retired when the storm struck. Carter had just gotten up to look at the cloud and was in the act of telling his family they had better go to the dugout when the house was blown down. Mr. Carter was hurled through the roof and rendered unconscious. When he regained consciousness he found his wife dead with their year old baby tightly clasped in her arms, uninjured. Barbara, their other child four years old was near her mother. Although Mr. Carter had several ribs broken, cuts and bruises all over his body and an ugly wound on his hip where something struck him, he was able to get the body of his wife and children into the dugout and leaving Barba (sic) with the body of her mother he took the baby to a house of a neighbor where assistance was secured and the body of the woman and the little girl were taken to the home of another neighbor. A family named Ferguson were all injured when their house blew down. They lived in Harmon county, three miles west of Coralea. Mr. Ferguson had his hip crushed, and his child's head was crushed. They were taken to a hospital at Altus and last reports were that the child was not expected to live. - Mangum Star.
