Clebe (sic) Chester, nineteen year old son of James Chester, who lives eight miles southeast of Elk, while attempting to put out a prairie fire last Friday evening, was caught in the flames and completely enveloped. His companions rushed to his aid and as soon as they got him from the fire they cut the burning clothing from his body, but it was too late, as he had inhaled some of the flames. Dr. Watson was called and by the time he arrived at his home, Mr. Chester's face and head were swollen beyond recognition. Although the Doctor relieved his sufferings as far a medical aid could do so, he died Sunday evening about eight p.m. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
