(25 Oct 1906, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Accidently Killed. As we go to press we learn of the fatal accidental shooting of a Mr. Crook, who resides on a farm southwest of Sayre. Mr. Crook came to Oklahoma several years ago and by hard work and attention to business has accumulated considerable property. The deceased was 41 years old and just at the time when he could have enjoyed the result of his years of hard work, he was suddenly taken away. The particulars of this sad affair could not be learned in time for publication in this issue. (25 Oct 1906, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): KILLED HIMSELF ACCIDENTALLY. Automatic Pistol Keeps on Shooting. "General" Crook, who lived five miles southeast of Sayre in Greer county, met death yesterday in a peculiar manner. He was preparing to butcher a calf, and shot it with an automatic Colts pistol, after which he put the pistol in his pocket, where it kept on shooting until five bullets had taken effect. The dead man was about forty years old, and leaves a family. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
