CUPP, JESSE JAMES
(4 Oct 1928, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham County, Ok):
A gloom of sorry hung over our city Tuesday, when word came from the
bedside of Jesse Cupp, announcing that he had died from an accident which
occured (sic) last Sunday, in front of the family home on South Main
street, when he attempted to alight from a car while in motion and was
thrown to the pavement.
He was picked up unconscious and carried to his home where medical aid was
summoned.  At first his injury was not considered very serious but as
hours passed and he failed to rally his friends realized that the end was
near unless an operation would relieve the suffering.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday, October
3rd, at 3 p.m. and the remains were laid to rest in the Mayfield Cemetery.

Jesse James Cupp, son of J. H. and Martha A. Cupp, was born in Shariton
County, Mo., December 23rd, 1879.  He departed this life October 2, 1928
at the age of 48 years, 9 months and 9 days.
Jesse came to Oklahoma 26 years ago and has lived in and near Erick ever
since.
His father, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. There
remains of his immediate family, to mourn his departure, his mother, Mrs.
Martha A. Cupp, three brothers, C. Z and L. H. Cupp of Erick; and W. W.
Cupp of Excelson, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Redburn, of Hutchinson,
Kansas; and Mrs. Charles Armentrout of Manhattan, Kansas.  He leaves many
other relatives and friends who mourn his going.  He was converted and
united with the First Baptist Church of Erick about six years ago.  It
might be falsely said of some that they lived a faithful christian life,
but not so with Jesse Cupp.  He was a faithful christian gentleman, true
to every principle that he knew to be right.  He ranked highly among the
most faithful members of the church of which he was a member.  His pew
will be empty, but our hearts will be full and rich in the memory of his
patient, faithful life.
