Last Wednesday morning the dead body of a boy apparently 16 to 18 years of age was found on the railroad track in the East part of town. His head was off, arms and legs broken and his body badly bruised. Judging from appearances and the evidence at hand he was killed by the West bound passenger train due to arrive here at 2:30 Wednesday morning, and again run over by a freight going East. The supposition is that he was riding on the coal tender or underneath a coach and fell off as the train passed along. On his person was found $4.18, a bill of purchases made in Oklahoma City on July 17, and 18 and an express receipt dated July 25, showing that John Rhine had expressed a grip from Oklahoma City to John Rhine, Pueblo, Colo. His hat bore the brand of an Oklahoma City firm. The laundry mark on his clothes was H. C. His description with all evidence at hand was wired to police departments at Oklahoma City and Pueblo. Evidences were found in his grip at Pueblo indicating his name to be Harry Curry, but no address. A letter from a collecting agency in Little Rock was found in his grip, and they and Oklahoma City police were wired for any information they could learn of Harry Curry. Individual by name of Rhine and Curry in Oklahoma City were communicated with, and an account of the affair was published in the daily papers. Up to three o'clock Friday afternoon nothing of importance had been learned and the remains were laid to rest in the Texola cemetery. Description of the deceased: - Name supposed to be Jno. Rhine or Harry Curry, age 16 to 18, height about 5 feet and 5 inches, slender, weight about 125 pounds. Hair medium dark and cut short, third finger on right hand off just below second joint, fourth finger has been badly mashed. Intelligent looking and apparently of good family. Wore black hat, black jacket under blue jumper, blue serge pants and ox-blood button slippers. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
