(18 Oct 1906, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Rachael A. Delamarter, wife of M. C. Delamarter, living nine miles north west of Elk City, was burned to death Monday, Oct. 10, by throwing a lighted match on the floor which ignited the back of her dress. Although her neighbors hastened to the rescue and medical aid was promptly summoned nothing could be done for this unfortunate woman. Mrs. Delamarter was born in Granville, Ohio, August 34 (sic), 1852 and was left to fight the battle of life alone at a tender age. She was married to Moses C. Delamarter July 26, 1890. To this union was born two children, Ray, age 14, and Roy, age 12. Mrs. Delamarter was a kind hearted christian woman and was always ready and willing to alleviate the suffering of others. May the white wings of peace spread over this poor soul and may her memory be cherished as an example of christian character. The sympathy of the entire neighborhood is with the sorrowing relatives. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
