(20 Jan 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): The Daily Oklahoman this morning carried the following story regarding the death in an oil explosion of R. M. Denny of Oklahoma City, father of Mrs. T. H. Mosby of this city. R. M. Denny, about 55 years old, was burned to death late Wednesday in an explosion at the warehouse of the Sloane-Forsberg Oil Company, 900 West Reno avenue. Information as to the cause of the explosion was being sought by company officials. In the flames which followed the explosion, Denny was burned almost to a crisp, and could not be recognized for some time after the fire was out. Holes were chopped in the roof and sides of the building by firemen to fight back flames which threatened to spread to two full tank cars of gasoline standing at the unloading dock of the warehouse. Denny had been engaged in oil business here for several years, and prior to going to work for the Sloane-Forsberg company was warehouseman for the Pierce Petroleum company. He lived at 2808 West Thirteenth street. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. T. H. Mosby, Elk city, and Mrs. Edwin W. Stuchell of Everett, Wash. The many Elk City friends of Mrs. Mosby extend sympathy. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
