DOBBS, WILLIAM
(22 Jul 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK):
Final rites were read at 3 o'clock this afternoon in the Carter Cemetery
for William Dobbs, two and one half year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
Dobbs, who died in an Elk City hospital last night a victim of lye water.
The child drank the lye water at the home of his parents, three miles
north and two miles west of Carter, yesterday morning.  He was rushed to
the Elk City hospital for treatment but the strong chemical solution had
already had time to eat the tissues of the child's internal organs, it was
stated.
The water was sitting (sic) near where Mrs. Dobbs was working and the
child had taken but one swallow before the container was snatched from its
hands, the mother said today.  Emergency treatment was given the child
before it was taken to the hospital but the effect was inconsequental,
attendants here said.
When relief from the burning chemical was not obtained through the
emergency treatment given at home the parents sought advice of physicians.
 When the child was here it was in a critical condition and hopes for
saving it were slight, it was learned.
Services were conducted this afternoon by Rev. J. T. Reel, Baptist pastor
of the Carter community.  Interment was made in the Carter cemetery with
the Killough-Hullum, funeral directors, in charge of arrangements.
William Dobbs is survived by his father and mother and four brothers and
four sisters.  He was born Jan. 3, 1928, near Canute.

Lye Water Proves Fatal to Two year Old Boy.
William Dobbs Dies Late Monday Evening.
Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Carter
cemetery for William Dobbs, small son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Dobbs, who
died in an Elk City hospital late Monday evening.  The child drank lye
water at the home of his parents, three miles north and two miles east of
here Monday morning.
The water was setting near where Mrs. Dobbs was working and the child had
taken but one swallow before the container was snatched from its hands,
the mother said.  Emergency treatment was given the child before it was
taken to the hospital and when relief from the burning chemical was not
obtained through the emergency treatment given at home the parents ought
advice of physicians.  The child was later taken to an Elk City hospital
but the lye had eaten the tissues of the internal organs.
Services were conducted by Rev. J. T. Reel.  William Dobbs is survived by
