B. Dugger, of this City, and Well Known Here. J. A. Dugger, one of Hammon's leading business men, and a brother of E. B. Dugger, of this city, was killed in an auto collision near Seiling on Thursday afternoon last. Mr. Dugger had been on a trip to Enid and was returning home when he met a bus on the highway, and evidence shows that he drove over to the right side of the road as far as he could get, but that the bus continued straight ahead, hitting the Dugger auto, inflicting injuries which proved fatal to Mr. Dugger. The bus stopped, picked up the injured man, and carried him to a hospital at Woodward, where he died a couple of hours after the collision, never regaining consciousness. A little nine-year-old son was in the car with Mr. Dugger, and escaped without injury. Funeral services were held at Hammon on Friday afternoon and were the largest attended of any funeral ever held in that section. Mr. Dugger had been in the mercantile business at Hammon for the past fifteen years, and was very popular with the people of that section, and all turned out to pay their last respects to their friend. (5 Aug 1927, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. Arthur Dugger, a prominent merchant of Hammon, was killed in an automobile accident Thursday afternoon. The accident happened near Woodward about two o'clock in the afternoon and Mr. Dugger lived until about five. We understand there was no one with him at the time of the accident but a ten year old son who was uninjured. Mr. Dugger was a brother of Mrs. W. S. Simpson of Carter and she and Mr. Simpson left for Hammon Thursday evening after receiving a message informing them of the accident. Mr. Dugger has been in business at Hammon for about twenty years. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
