The unfortunate young man was immediately taken to the office of Drs. Speed & Windle, but death came within a few moments after and before the physicians were able to combat the influence of the poison. Little is known of the cause leading up to the unfortunate affair, but is seems that he had become despondent and on last Friday morning he had threatened to take either his own life or that of his wife. His threat had been reported to the officers, and Jack Stuart, who had been deputized as an officer, during the two days celebration, went in search of Dunbar and found him lying in the ice company's stable. Not knowing his true condition, he placed him under arrest and started to walk to town with him. Dunbar had not proceeded far when he sank to the ground in a helpless condition. Mr. Stuart then realized that he was ill and hastily summoned a carriage and conveyed him to the office of Drs. Speed & Windle. The funeral was held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon, Rev. H. G. Phillips preaching the funeral sermon; and the remains were laid to rest in the Sayre cemetery. (19 Jul 1912, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Ollie Dunbar of Sayre, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dunbar committed suicide last Friday by taking Carbolic acid. Ollie, it is claimed, had some trouble with his wife, had threatened her and his own life. After worring (sic) over the matter for some days, his mind became unbalanced, so we are told, and this lead up to his taking his own life. He lived with his parents in Sayre, and was a faithful hand at the Sayre Ice Plant. It is to be regretted and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dunbar, who are among the very best people in Sayre, have the sympathy of the town in this hour of darkest bereavement.
