At the same time, Mrs. Etcherson's daughter was injured by the car, but not seriously. The accident occurred on Frisco avenue near the city hall and the women were struck while attempting to cross the street. From reports received by the Enterprise, the tragedy was unavoidable, and no blame is attached to Philip, although he was held in jail for several hours following the accident. Grant Kerr, city commissioner of Clinton, was in Foss Tuesday and told The Enterprise that there was no criticism of Philip's conduct by those who witnessed the accident, to Philip, although he was held was a mistake. It appears that Mrs. Etcherson and her daughter became confused while crossing the street and in trying to get out of the way of the automobile they dodged in front of it, Philip all the time trying to keep from hitting them. In the car with Delp were his wife and the latter's mother. Mrs. Etcherson was a widow and was known as "Mother" Etcherson. For years she had conducted a boarding house in Clinton, and the daughter who was with her at the time of the accident and another daughter are teachers in the Clinton schools. She also has another daughter, who is a teacher in the eastern part of the state, and a son in Denver, Colorado. -- Foss Enterprise. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
