Flint, formerly cashier of the First National Bank of Leedey, committed suicide Tuesday between 11:45 and 5 o'clock, shooting himself twice in the temple with an automatic revolver. Flint resigned that morning as cashier of the bank, saying he would return after lunch. He went from the bank to a drug store and from there to his home. He asked his wife for his gun, took it and drove away. When she learned he had not returned to the bank she became alarmed and a search was made, the body being found two and a half miles southeast of town. He was dead when found. The First National at Leedey is one of the Thurmond banks, one of the strongest chains of financial institutions in Oklahoma, and following the resignation of Flint, J. C. Hood was elected cashier. Mr. Hood is from the First National Bank at Sayre, also a Thurmond bank, where he has been for the past several years. J. P. Thurmond says he is very capable man and will be able to serve the people of Leedey to their satisfaction. (Nov 1926, Sayre Newspaper, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Tuesday soon after noon, Cashier Court Flynt (sic) of the First National Bank of Leedy (sic) shot and killed himself while sitting in his parked auto on the highway about a mile from town. He was not found until about five o'clock that afternoon. President E. K. Thurmond of the bank was in Sayre Wednesday and it is the intention of him to place Claud Hood of this city in control of the institution at Leedy. Mr. Hood is over at Leedy now making preparation for the change. No shortage is said to exhist (sic) in the funds of the bank and it is said that he was despondent over domestic matters and ill health. It is stated that he was released by Mr. Thurmond about a week ago and was assisting in the bank until the new officials took charge. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
