FORD, WANDA (10 Nov. 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): FOSS ACCIDENT FATAL TO THREE. Third Person Dies Early Today in Hospital at Clinton. The death early today of Buford Farnsworth, 28, of Butler, in a Clinton hospital brought the toll of a highway accident three miles east of Foss last night to three, according to information received here. Farnsworth had been unconscious since the automobile in which he and two companions were riding collided with a truck, killing two people instantly. Mrs. L. P. Ford, 69, of Foss, and her granddaughter, Wanda Ford, 7, occupants of the truck which Mr. Ford was driving, died soon after the impact. The family in the truck was returning from Stafford where the day had been spent visiting relatives, it was reported. The accident occurred between 6:30 and 6:45 o'clock last evening. The car in which Farnsworth, Wallace Beckham, of Hammon and Oscar Dunning, of Canute, were riding crashed head-on into the truck in which the Ford family was riding, according to reports sent here. Dunning and Beckham were in critical condition today and hopes for recovery were slight, it is understood. Four occupants of the truck were suffering injuries. They are: N. G. Ford, of Stafford, son of L. P. Ford; Mrs. N. G. Ford and her small son, and L. P. Ford. The elder Mr. Ford was given slight chance to recover, reports said. Investigations were being conducted by Willis Cook, county attorney of Custer county, and Washita county officers. Whether or not charges would be filed was not learned by noon today. Contradicting stories of witnesses brought indecision into the probe, it is understood. Both the automobile and the truck were demolished by the force of the impact followed by both vehicles rolling off the shoulder of the highway, it was reported. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
