Fossett was last seen February 17, when he left the Frisco depot, stating that he was going to see his sick wife. When several days passed without his return, searching parties were organized and the country was scoured from end to end without avail. Immediately after Coroner F. Carleton was notified of the discovery of the body, a jury was empaneled and went to the ravine. The body then was removed to an undertaking establishment, where a search was made for signs of violence. Owing to the state of decomposition, little could be learned of the manner of Fossett's death, however, and the jury was forced to return a verdict of death from unknown causes. Fossett was a veteran of the war between the states and drew a heavy pension. A pension check is awaiting him at the post office now. Fossett was married and has a brother living here who is in the service of the Rock Island.
