(25 Jul 1919, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Killed by Train. One of the worst accidents that has ever happened in the county, occured (sic) last Saturday afternoon at the railroad crossing near the compress, south of Elk City, when Mr. S. M. Gillette and young daughter, and Tom Rolston (sic), a brother-in-law of Mr. Gillette, all lost their lives, when a north bound passenger train on the W. F. & N.W. R.R. crashed into their car. All three of the occupants were killed instantly, Mr. Gillette's body being horribly mangled. The car was carried about a hundred yards, it is said, before the train was stopped. The three that were killed were the only persons in the car at the time. Mr. Gillette resided several miles north of Carter and he and family had many friends in this part of the country who were made extremely sad when they heard of the deplorable affair.
