Joe Mincher, who was on the wagon with Odis, was also struck by the bolt and was unconscious for several hours. However, he was able to come to town Friday afternoon and said except for a numbness over his body he felt all right. When the lightning hit, the team ran away and both boys were thrown from the wagon, Joe was thrown in the road, while Odis's body was thrown into some weeds about 35 feet from the road. The latter's neck was broken and his body was badly burned. Indications were that the wagon was under telephone wires when the lightning struck, as several telephone poles were damaged by the electrical display. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
