W. Sanders is in receipt of a letter bearing the sad news that a little grand daughter was fatally burned on the morning of the 26th of December near Bardwell, Texas. The mother went to milk leaving the children asleep. She had only been out a few minutes when she heard the screams of the children. She ran for the house only to meet the child in flames. She smothered the flames with her own skirts, but too late to save its life. It lingered until the next day and died in great agony. Her little brother had lighted a sparkler and handed it to her. She dropped it in her lap which ignited her clothing. Her little eight year old sister sprang from her bed and tried to extinguish the flames but burned her hands so badly she abandoned the idea. The child was the two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Gooch. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
