Gould, the oldest one of the Gould boys, three of whom reside in Carter, was drowned in Beaver creek near May, Okla., on Friday of last week. Mr. Gould, in company with several other men, were on the creek drifting down the stream on rafts, the water being up at the time, and while Mr. Gould was drifting along down the stream on a raft ahead of the other men, his raft struck a barbwire fence and turned over throwing him into the water. The water being deep and swift he was washed down stream with such force and rapidity that there was evidently little or no chance of the other men saving him. His body was found about a mile down the creek. The news first came to Carter that Mr. Gould had been drowned while trying to cross the stream in an automobile but this was a mistake. Chester and Auzie Gould both left Carter and went to Oklahoma City where they were to meet their brother's family with the corpse and proceed to Dewitt, Ark., to be present at the burial as the remains were sent to that place for interment. It was certainly sad news to the boys and other relatives here when the dispatch came stating that their brother was so suddenly taken away. The Express force extends to the relatives our sincere sympathy in their sorrowing hour. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
