Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Harrington, of near Berlin, were chopping cotton yesterday morning when both were struck by lightning. Mr. Harrington was merely stunned while his wife was killed. She was a daughter of Mr. French, living nine miles west of Elk City, was about 26 years of age. She leaves four children, two boys, one and six, and twin girls three years old. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at Berlin. (3 Jul 1924, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. JESSE HARRINGTON. Mary Charlotte French, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. French was born December 9th, 1896, in Stevens County, Texas. She moved to Berlin, Oklahoma, with her parents when quite young where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Jesse Harrington, February 18th, 1917, at Berlin, by Rev. Wells. Four children were born to this union, Jessie Lee, Lorela Mae, Jenita Fay, and Russell. She was converted when a young girl and was a good christian ever living the true life. She loved her home and was so interested in everything pertaining to it, was a true daughter, wife and most loving mother. It was a terrible shock to all her friends and relatives when they learned of her death caused from being struck by lightning as she and her husband were going to house from cotton field. The funeral services were held at Berlin conducted by Rev. Wells, who officiated at her wedding. A large crowd of sympathizing friends were present to show their deep sympathy and also great respect they had for the deceased. Many beautiful flowers were sent by sorrowing friends.
