C. Heap of this place, had been run over by a train the night before, at McLean, Texas, and fatally injured. His foot had caught in a guard rail, and he was unable to get it out before a car struck him. His leg was crushed and mangled clear up to his body, injuring him in such a way that there was no hope of recovery. Tuesday morning, a special train took Mrs. Heap to Amarillo, and Wednesday morning Frank died. The body was taken to Colorado Springs for burial. He was 19 years old, and was the only child. He was a young man of good habits and high ambitions. This was his first run on a freight train as brakeman, after running with his father on a passenger train for some time. The sympathy of all is with his parents in their sad bereavement. (12 Aug 1905, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Frank Heap was accidently killed while switching in the yards at Groom, Texas, last Monday night. His foot caught in a guard rail and three cars passed over his leg, amputating it close to the body. He was taken to the hospital in Amarillo and lived about 24 hours. Frank was a bright young man and has been running on passengers with his father for sometime, and was making his first trip on freights when the accident occurred. He had many friends among the young people of Sayre who deeply sympathize with his bereaved parents in their sad misfortune. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
