(1 Jan 1931, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): As his wife lay asleep in the family apartment overhead, Terry W. Hudgins, 44, jeweler and Variety store proprietor of this city died early Friday morning on the main floor of his store building, from a gunshot wound self inflicted. He arose about 5:30 o'clock, dressed himself and went about his usual morning chores of cleaning up the store and sweeping refuse, that collected over the day before, toward the front of the building, went back to the rear of the store and sat down on the floor close to a lighted gas stove where he used a 32-calibre Colt revolver to end his life, according to testimony adduced at the coroners inquest conducted by Peace Justice Burton and the County Sheriff. Mr. Hudgins left no reason written or oral for his act and members of the family could ascribe no reason for his action. Hudgins had been a jeweler and watch maker here for 19 years, having came (sic) to Erick in 1911 from McLean, Texas, where his aged mother and other relatives live. For several years he and his wife have conducted a jewelry and variety store here and have enjoyed a good business. Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church, here, Sunday morning at eleven o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. A. Roberts. Interment was in the McLean cemetery, last rites being said at the grave by members of the Erick Lodge A.F. & A.M. of which deceased was a member. Funeral arrangements was in charge of D. G. Fatheree, Funeral Director. Pall bearers were from among the Erick Masonic lodge as follows: Joe Andress, Sam Burrell, J. O. Bell, R. W. McCampbell, Lee McDermott and Dolph Velvin. Deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Etta Hudgins, mother Mrs. W. T. Hudgins of McLean, one brother, Howard, of McLean and four sisters: Mesdames L. H. Shockley and Nora Erwin, McLean; Lucy Bogan, Albuquerque, N. M., and Lillian Simpson, Canadian, Texas. His father, W. T. Hudgins, died at his McLean home, November 1st, 1930.
