(21 Jan 1926, Thursday, Texola Tribune, Texola, Beckham Co, OK): Geo. W. Husted, age 42, of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, is dead, and Claud Brown, age 45, a Wellington, Texas, man is seriously injured and is now in the hospital at Shamrock, Texas, as a result of a car wreck on the Shamrock-Wellington road Sunday morning about eleven o'clock. According to Editor Bones of Shamrock, Texas, the men were driving at a rather rapid clip going southward toward Wellington. On approaching the bridge over the first little stream they were going too fast to make the turn to get on the bridge and went over the creek bank into the narrow stream, the car turning over several times. The embankment is said to be about 12 feet deep. The car driven was a 22 model Cadillac and was a complete wreck. Husted was killed outright his head and body being badly crushed. He was underneath the wrecked car and it required some little time to get the car off of him as it was wedged down in the bed of the stream. Brown was scrambling to get out of the wreck when the first people on the scene arrived and was in an unconscious condition. He was taken immediately to the Shamrock hospital. He received a broken arm and had several ribs caved in. He will probably recover. At the place this wreck occurred is said to be one of the most dangerous turns in the country. The bridge is very narrow. It sets angling across the road and you approach it from a steep hill. Rev. J. N. Tinkle of this city, pastor of the local Methodist church, assisted Rev. Russell of the Bulo Baptist church in conducting the funeral of Geo. W. Husted who was killed in auto accident south of Shamrock. The services were held Monday and Husted was buried in the Bulo cemetery. (28 Jan 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Geo. W. Hulstead (sic), 42 years old, a farmer of the Sweetwater community, was instantly killed and Claude Brown, 45 years old of Wellington, Texas, his brother-in-law, was seriously injured when their car jumped an embankment as they were making an "S" turn on highway No. 4, two miles south of Shamrock, Texas, about 1 o'clock Sunday morning, January 17th, 1926. Brown was thrown clear of the wreckage and Hulstead was pinned beneath the car in a creek where it had fallen after apparently turning over three times. The car was completely demolished. Hulstead is survived by a wife and four children. His body was brought to Erick Sunday, where it was taken care of by the Fatheree Undertaking Establishment. He was burried (sic) Monday afternoon at Sweetwater, Oklahoma (Buffalo Cemetery). Brown is being cared for in a Shamrock hospital. He is suffering with a broken arm, and a few broken ribs. A report was out the he had died, but this report is untrue as friends in Shamrock state he is recovering and is not in a serious condition. - Beckham Co.
