(5 Jul 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): One C. T. Lee shot with a shot gun his neighbor one Jackson over the trespassing of Jackson's cow at Hammon, (Roger Mills County) Friday, June 29th. The shot took effect in Jackson's bowels and he was immediately removed to a hospital in Elk City where 8 feet of the intestine were removed, and he died on Sunday. Lee was lodged in jail in Cheyenne. Jim Jackson of Hammon who was shot by his neighbor Cortez Lee last Friday, died at the Tisdal Hospital Sunday afternoon. The trouble started over Lee herd lawing a cow belonging to Jackson, and when Jackson and his brother went after the cow there seems to have been a dispute, which ended in Lee shooting Jackson through the abdomen. He was hurried to the Tisdal Hospital here, but there was no chance for his recovery. Funeral services were held at Hammon Monday morning, it is reported that it was one of the largest funerals ever held at Hammon. The deceased was a blacksmith and had lived at Hammon for a number of years. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Grubitz and Son. Lee, who did the shooting is a carpenter, and has also lived there for some time.
