On November 13, I received a message by phone to come to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, 2 miles south of Canute, where their little 16 months old daughter had died the day before. The occasion of the call was to preach the funeral of the unfortunate little one. The cause of the death was a very sad one and come in this wise. The little girl was alone in the room with her 3 year old brother and was playing with a newspaper, when, as it is supposed, she got too near the stove and the paper became ignited. The little brother gave the alarm and before Mrs. Johnson arrived the little girl's clothing was aflame. In trying to save the little one Mrs. Johnson burned her hands severely. This occurred Monday evening and the little girl died Tuesday morning. The grief stricken parents wired for Mrs. Johnson's parents and his sister who live in Indian Territory but they received the message too late to attend the funeral. The funeral services were held at the home and the burial was made in the neighboring graveyard. And thus we go one by one.
