(3 Jun 1910, Friday, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): 12-Year-Old Boy Drowns. Chester Jones was found in a creek near his home, 5 miles southeast of town, drowned, last Friday night. Judge J. W. McClung with a jury of six men conducted a post mortem examination Saturday, and the jury's verdict was that he got kicked by a horse about the head, after which he fell into the creek and drowned. The Jury in this case were: Jno. W. Wright, M. A. McClellan, I. N. Day, T. J. Hogan, Bud L. McDonald, and W. A. Pass. Dr. Murphy was the attending physician. The boy had been under the water several hours before he was found, the water being only 2 feet deep. It is a very sad affair, and Mr. and Mrs. Jones certainly have the sympathy of the entire community in this their darkest hour of bereavement. (3 Jun 1910, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): A sad accident to brother Jones occured on Friday evening last. A son about 13 years of age went to pick mulberries but failed to return, therefore they searched for him and when found he was lying dead in a pool of water. An inquest was held and from the best information this writer gathered he had come in contact in some way with a colt or young horse. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
