ELIZABETH (22 Aug 1918, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): WOMAN DROWNS Miss Lizzie Jones, who has been living with her brother, Chas. Jones seven miles southeast of Elk City was found Tuesday morning in the pond on that place, life being extinct. She had been in poor health, suffering from pellegra for several years, which preyed on her mind so much that it is thought in great despondency she threw herself in the pond. She was about sixty years of age, and was a sister of Chas. and Clem Jones and Mrs. Proctor. She was born and raised in Hopkins County, Texas, but had lived in Oklahoma for about twenty years. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, and interment made at the Ural Cemetery, by the side of her father Jack Jones, who died about four years ago. Miss Jones was loved by all who knew her, and was one who stood high in the neighborhood where she lived, and wherever she was known. Her death caused much sorrow among her friends and relatives, who are receiving the sincere sympathy of all. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
