JOE (30 Nov 1922, Beckham County Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Joe Kelley Accidentally Killed. Monday morning about eight o'clock Mark Jordan accidently discharged a 22-caliber rifle, which caused the death of one of our esteemed citizens, Mrs. Joe Kelley. Mr. Jordan was in the S. K. Roach home, from whom he had borrowed the rifle to kill some hogs, and not knowing whether or not the gun was loaded, he began working the magazine, and the gun was accidently discharged. The bullet went through the screen door on Roach house, after traveling 150 feet, passed through a window of the Kelly (sic) home, which was covered with oil cloth, then on through an open door, striking Mrs. Kelley in the side. Dr. R. T. Foster was called immediately, and in a short while they had Mrs. Kelley on the road to the hospital at Amarillo. The ambulance met them just west of town and took the patient on to the hospital, but she was then beyond human aid, and passed away about 2 o'clock. Mrs. Kelley has made a host of friends since she came to our city and all hearts were saddened at the news of the accident, and her death. The above article was received through the mail and failed to state what city Mrs. Kelley was killed in. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
