Dick was washing out some of his clothing in a vessel of gasoline a few feet away from a fire when the gasoline caught on fire and burned him so badly that he only lived one week. Dick was well known to the Carter people and his many friends throughout this part of the country were severely shocked when they learned of the terrible accident. Roy Cartmill and wife of Carter went out to see him before he died and remained out there till after the funeral. He left a young wife, father and other relatives, to mourn his death.
