(28 Jul 1910, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): CONSTABLE LANDS A GUN-TOTER. Yesterday morning word was received at Cheyenne of the sensational killing of a man by the name of Scribner (sic) by one Wm. Wheeler, a constable. The Democrat is unable to get the full and definite details, but the information obtainable is to the effect that recently in a heated argument between Scribner and another man, hot words were passed and blows struck. A warrant was sworn out for the accused, and when Constable Wheeler went to execute same, he was met by resistance and a rifle drawn on him. The constable fired and killed the gun-player. It is reported that two revolvers were found on the deceased, besides the rifle. The sheriff's officers have gone to the scene. No further particulars can be obtained in time for this issue.
