LOUIS (10 Dec 1914, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Louis Smith, who was shot by E. E. Wilson during a quarrel at their home nine miles southwest of Elk City about two weeks ago, died last Friday night from the effects of the wound and was buried Saturday afternoon. The bullet lodged in his right eye, and for a time it was the opinion of the attending physician that the injured man had a good chance for recovery, but complications set in later which resulted fatally. Wilson was arraigned before Judge Brown Monday and was admitted to bail in the sum of $3,000, which was promptly furnished by his friends who are among the best citizens of the community in which he lives. Wilson claims that he fired the shot which resulted in Smith's death in self defense, the deceased having fired the first shot. The two men and their families were living together on the same farm, and the trouble between them arose over some trival (sic) matter while they were attending to their stock. (Ural Cemetery, Beckham Co, Ok.: C. Louis Smith; born 6 Apr 1875; died 5 Dec 1914). --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
