(4 Aug 1927, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): A KILLING NEAR ELK CITY TUESDAY NIGHT Two Families Living on the Hoard Farm Indulge in a Free-For-All Fight, and Argile Jones Shot and Killed A. R. Suggs When He Reached For a Gun. Beckham county seems to be having an epidemic of shooting affairs. Two weeks ago young Turnels was killed north of this city; one week ago Sheriff Green killed one escaping prisoner near Berlin and wounded two others, and Tuesday night a shooting affair near Elk City resulted in the death of A. R. Suggs. This last affair seems to have been a family row with the shooting as a climax. It seems that A. R. Suggs and Argile Jones lived in the same house on the Hoard farm, five miles southwest of Elk City, and that there had been trouble over possession of the house, resulting in a court order for Suggs to vacate within a specific time. Tuesday the two families seem to have indulged in a free-for-all fight over the garden and a flock of chickens, the women as well as the men taking a hand. Lee Jones, a brother of Argile, was also present and had a hand in the melee, and the testimony at hand is conflicting, with the result that Lee has also been placed under arrest. (4 Aug 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): A. R. Suggs was born in Corley, Arkansas, September 15, 1889, and died near Elk City, August 2, 1927, age 37 years, 10 months and 17 days.
