It is believed by the officers, as well as the neighbors of Mr. Walker, that he was first murdered and the house fired to cover up the crime. The officers discovered some blood stained clothing, which led them to believe there had been foul play, and gave them a clew (sic) to work on. The body was identified as that of Mr. Walker by Dr. B E Bryant, a dentist of Sentinel, who recognized some work he had done on the teeth of the dead man. A late report states that Earnest Standefer, a brother-in-law of Walker, had been arrested and lodged in the county jail at Cordell (Washita County) charged with the crime, the accused man being a brother of Sheriff Standefer of Washita county. (2 Apr 1915, Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Earnest Standerfer (sic), who is charged with the killing of his father-in-law, Chas. Walker, near Sentinel some time back, was granted bail in the sum of $8000 at Cordell, last week. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
