(28 Apr 1921, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Word was received in this city last Friday that W. H. Lesher, farmer, living near Sweetwater, had committed suicide. The cause of the act is said by his relatives and friends to have been the death of his daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Reeves, who died two weeks ago in the Elk City hospital. Mr. Lesher was found in a ravine near his home with his throat cut by a razor. It appeared that the man had made two attempts with the razor before he succeeded in severing the juglar vein. His wife and two grandsons lived with him on the farm and kept almost a constant watch over him since the death of his daughter. His younger daughter, Miss Bonnie Lesher, died about three years ago and was a dreadful shock to the man. His actions since that time had intimated that he was of the mind to end his life and after the second daughter passed away he told several of his friends that he had nothing more to live for. Mr. Lesher was well known in this city having done most of his trading here for a number of years. He was highly respected by all who knew him and a man of very enviable character and reputation. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
